An equine veterinarian, private pilot, and an outdoor enthusiast are some of the many hats JD wears. He comes from a race horse background with both sides of his family having been extensively involved in the thoroughbred racing industry in Versailles, KY. His true passion has always revolved around the performance horse which led him to pursue a career in equine veterinary medicine.
JD has worked for premier equine clinics such as Equine Sports Medicine and Surgery and Outlaw Equine, focusing primarily on repro and lameness. He has spoken on lameness in the performance horse at national meetings throughout the US and Canada. His research on the equine stifle and condylar fractures in racehorses has been published in the Equine Veterinary Journal. He now works for Dechra Pharmaceutical (developers of Osphos) as a consulting veterinarian. He still maintains a small private practice with established clients and his and Sally’s personal horses keep them busy most weekends.
Sally has always had profound love for animals and the outdoors. Coming from a large, blended and sometimes chaotic family, she found sanctity at her Grandparents ranch in Guymon, Oklahoma where she spent a lot of her time. It was there, a love for horses, cattle, and the land was cultivated. She began competing in rodeo in high school and that would then become her passion. After graduating from Texas A&M, she would move back to Guymon to live with her Grandparents. She would live there for 8 years while finishing her graduate degree and starting a career in animal health. In 2016, she and JD married and moved to their place in Decatur, Texas.
Shortly after their move, Sally lost her 16-year old sister Grace to suicide. A week later, her Stepfather of 20 years would die from an overdose. 6 months following, her beloved Grandma would pass. Through that journey of grief and acceptance much of her writing has been inspired as well as her connection to her horses, the land, and animals deepened. She shares her experiences and thoughts on her blog page here.
With great joy on June 2, 2020 we welcomed our daughter, Mary Grace Conway.
